The city of Valencia has been chosen to host the presentation gala of the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2022. This event, which will take place on December 14, 2021 at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, will present the new selection of restaurants distinguished with a star. It will be hosted by Quique Dacosta, the local chef with three stars.
Valencia takes over from Madrid as the organizing city and will host this Gala for the first time in its history. The format will be both face-to-face and digital in order to comply with the current sanitary restrictions.
The city of Valencia offers the ideal setting to host the most important gastronomic festival of the Iberian Peninsula: tradition and level of its gastronomic offer, diversity of its activities to promote the restaurant and hospitality sector and a clear strategy to to make it an internationally attractive tourist destination. The Valencian Community has no less than 21 restaurants distinguished with a star in the selection of the Spain and Portugal 2021 Michelin guide.
Gwendal Poullenec, international director of the Michelin Guides, states “ Following the rhythm of restaurateurs in Spain and Portugal and adapting to local health regulations, our selection teams have been travelling the Iberian Peninsula for months in search of establishments, both new and already consolidated, which will appear in the 2022 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Spain & Portugal. Wherever they go, they observe with delight and admiration the determination of the chefs and their teams to satisfy their customers with talent, creativity and generosity. We are delighted that the Michelin Guide will be presented in Valence on December 14 and this event is an opportunity to meet the community of chefs. From a city with an exceptional gastronomic tradition and dynamism, we will be able to make known the new stars of Spain and Portugal and celebrate together the pleasure of finding restaurants”.
The regional secretary of tourism, Francesc Colomer, pointed out that “The celebration of the Gala in the Valencian Community strengthens our positioning as a gastronomic tourist destination. This is the essence of our strategy, the Exquisit Mediterrani. Now, more than ever, it is a question of supporting our chefs by highlighting their ability to generate talent and the notoriety of their restaurants. Gastronomy will be a fundamental element in the inspiration of travel after the pandemic, its role in the emotional return of society will be key”.
Finally, the sponsor of this edition, Chef Quique Dacosta underlines: “the fact that the Michelin Guide, the most prestigious in the world and that has been telling the story of haute cuisine for more than 130 years, comes to the Valencian Community and presents the new Stars is very important for our region. Also, having the chance to be the gastronomic coordinator of what will happen during this Gala is a great responsibility and at the same time a great pride. We will try to ensure that the event remains forever in the memory of the gastronomic world ”. And he ends by positively evaluating the impact of the gala on Valencian gastronomy: “It is an opportunity for all Valencian chefs and for the entire catering sector. This is the best time to enhance the cuisine of the Valencian Community, its pantry, its tradition, its uniqueness and its haute cuisine, which in recent years has been recognized all over the world. There is a great differentiation of our proposal compared to other territories, and what will happen in this gala is a reward for all this work ”.
